ABB, the power and automation technology group, will deliver a substation at the Rio Polímeros gas chemical plant. The order, awarded by Consórcio Lummus Andromeda, is based on ABB's solutions for equipment from high- to low-voltage tension. The order is comprised of technical, commercial and financial support, as well as installation, commissioning, testing and training services. The ABB system will allow the customer to produce ethylene and polyethylene from natural gas, rather than traditional production using oil. This production method of natural gas is being used for the first time in Brazil. "Since many products used at our plant are manufactured locally, it was important that ABB offered local technical and financial support," said Roy Montanari, Purchasing Manager for Consórcio Lummus Andromeda. "ABB is able to provide us solutions to resolve any issues that arise based on its local presence." Consórcio Lummus Andromeda, is a consortium formed by ABB and Snamprogetti SpA, Milan, Italy. This consortium was created and selected as an EPC supplier to Rio Polímeros gas chemical plant.
