Honeywell´s Enovate 3000 blowing agent, a liquid hydrofluorocarbon used as a blowing agent for rigid insulating foams is now used by Steadman & Son Ltd. to manufacture foam insulation panels.

Steadman, one of the longest established manufacturers of roofing and cladding systems in the UK, decided in favour of Enovate 3000 because it fulfils the Montreal Protocol by not harming the ozone layer. In addition, the product is not flammable. This quality means that Enovate easily meets the fire-resistant standards set by the UK's Loss Prevention Certification Board (LPCB), a recognized independent quality certification board. Enovate 3000 also provides superior insulation panel performance in comparison to competing products.

'We selected Honeywell because Enovate 3000 blowing agent provided solutions to two key issues we faced in the marketplace,' says Terry Mattinson, production director at Steadman. 'The first was the phase-out of ozone depleting hydrochlorofluorocarbon-based blowing agents, such as the banned HCFC-141b, in the production of rigid foam panels. The second was the rising demand for fire-resistant products certified by the LPCB. This is because the Association of British Insurers (ABI) recognizes LPCB certification and this leads to lower insurance premiums due to reduced fire risks.'

Enovate 3000 - HFC-245fa was specifically developed as a safe and efficient replacement for HCFC-141b (banned at the end of 2003) in rigid polyurethane and polyisocyanurate foams. Enovate 3000 is compatible with most metals, plastics and elastomers used in foam processing equipment. It exhibits excellent stability in polyol pre-mixes.

According to Daniel Nott, Honeywell's European Marketing Manager for Specialty Products, 'Our cooperation with Steadman helped them to smoothly integrate Enovate 3000 into their production process and has proven highly successful. We look forward to developing a long-term relationship with them to improve and develop new products and add further value.'

'Enovate 3000 has allowed Steadman to present a strong, competitive product in the composite panel market,' says Mattinson. 'It has placed us at the forefront of the market with an advanced product that has passed stringent LPCB testing and which has no adverse affect on the ozone layer.'
