Specially designed for fast and accurate handling operations across a diverse range of industrial tasks, the IRB 1600 is a backward-bending, steam-washable robot, with optional IP 67 classification. It is available in four versions, with a reach of 1.2m or 1.45m, and a maximum payload of 10 kgs. Its high payload makes the IRB 1600 the strongest robot on the market in its class.

The combination of proven technology and well-tested innovations offers high reliability and production up time. With high speed in all axes combined with ABB's unique motion control, the IRB 1600 offers astonishing cycle times. Further, the robot's outstanding positional repeatability and its unerring path following abilities, results in a high overall standard of manufactured parts quality, while its wide reach, long stroke, and ability to handle large payloads maximise utilisation.

Versatile mounting options including wall, floor, inverted and tilted, and the backward-bending concept, meet the high demands for flexible integration and production. When operating in narrow spaces, the slim forearm and small offset become key attributes. Spatial flexibility, combined with optional reach and payload, make the IRB1600 an extremely versatile robot to serve a wide range of industries.

Not only is the IRB 1600 an excellent arc-welding robot, it also provides superior performance in other applications such as assembly, die-casting, machine tending, materials handling, injection moulding and packaging. With a standard robust design right across the range, the robot is resistant to harsh production environments, and, since all moveable cabling is enclosed, the IRB 1600 is ideally suited to packaging applications in the food industry. In addition, the robot can be simply upgraded to fully dedicated foundry robot, through ABB FoundryPlus protection.

Standard equipment with the IRB 1600 is ABB's groundbreaking new controller the IRC5. Together they make a powerful, productive team that is easy to program through a simple operator interface. Programming can be carried out 'on-line', as well as 'off-line'; while to build compact, efficient cells, up to four robots can be independently operated from the same controller through the IRC5's embedded MultiMove function.

The unique functionality that MultiMove brings to the whole ABB robot range sets new standards in robot technology and opens up a range of applications previously classed as impractical or uneconomic.
