NEW ALUMINIUM PECHINEY UNSURPASSED TECHNOLOGY SOLUTION FOR ALCAN
Alcan Inc. showcases its new Aluminium Pechiney Unsurpassed Technology Solution (www.ap-technology.com), underscoring the Company's commitment to continued industry leadership in smelting technology and innovation. "Alcan's leadership position in proven aluminum smelting technology is based on its leading-edge AP technology and engineering and more than a century of experience in aluminum production," said Don Macmillan, Vice President, Technology and Engineering, Alcan Primary Metal Group, at a gathering of aluminum industry leaders at TMS 2006 in San Antonio, Texas, USA. "AP technology represents 80 percent of the world's newly installed capacity, excluding China, over the past 10 years." he added. AP Unsurpassed Technology Solution is a comprehensive power-to-product package and the industry's lowest full economic cost solution. It includes advanced smelting technology, equipment, engineering, and management services, which together create sustainable long-term value through greater capital, operating and technical efficiency. Alcan's AP technology platform has proven its value through a steady flow of breakthroughs and enhancements across five generations of reduction cells, from AP18 to AP50, with increasing process stability and simplicity. With AP30, AP35+, and the next-generation AP50, currently under development, the benefits of higher amperage levels are being reflected everyday in smelter production capacities, efficiency, and revenues.
