ALCAN LAUNCHES ALHIDE PLUS+ - A STRONGER, MORE DURABLE CABLE
Alcan Inc. announces the launch of ALHIDE Plus+, the next generation of ruggedized cable with a stronger, more durable insulation that provides extra protection against conductor damage. ALHIDE Plus+ was created to fill a void in the ruggedized cable market for a product that can withstand even greater resistance to damage than traditional abuse resistant cable. "We believe that it is better to prevent damage rather than repair it, and that is why ALHIDE Plus+ is a proactive solution to cable damage. There are certain environments that merit an even stronger insulation than offered by standard ruggedized cable. ALHIDE Plus+ can withstand over six times the crush resistance and more than four times the scoring resistance of abuse resistant cable industry standards," said Ian Hewett, President, Alcan Cable. Alcan Cable developed this new high density cross linked polyethylene insulation to provide outstanding resistance to crushing, abrasion and scoring, often found in environments such as rocky terrain or from installation abuse. "We are excited to offer a very cost-effective solution to an expensive problem experienced by the Utility market for years," added Steve Waller, Director, Alcan Cable Utility Sales, North America. ALHIDE Plus+ conductors are available in a full range of sizes in single, duplex, triplex and quadruplex cable assemblies. Distinctly positioned within the cable market, Alcan Cable has been a leader in developing innovative solutions with its Utility customers. The business was the first cable manufacturer to introduce Reel-less packaging, Vendor Managed Inventory, Investment Recovery and Reel Recycling to reduce the "Total Cost of Ownership" for its cable products and enhance customer revenues. Alcan Cable, based in Atlanta, Georgia, is the only fully integrated aluminum cable supplier in North America. The business provides utility bare transmission and distribution cable, service cable including 600V underground distribution conductors, and aluminum residential and commercial building wire to the Investor Owned Utility and Electrical Distribution markets.
