ALCAN CABLE INTRODUCES HITEMP EC(TM) A HIGH TEMPERATURE LOW SAG SOLUTION FOR THE UTILITY TRANSMISSION MARKET

Alcan Cable, a fully integrated North American aluminum cable supplier, introduces a new family of premium aluminum transmission cable products to the Utility market, Aluminum Conductor Steel Supported and Aluminum Conductor Steel Supported/Trapezoidal Wire.

Promoted as "The High Temperature, Low Sag Solution", the new line of Alcan conductors have the advantage of operating continuously at high temperatures up to 250o C (482o F) with reduced sag in transmission lines and the capability of transporting between 50 to 70% more current than conventional transmission cable products. Both ACSS and ACSS/TW conductors are composite concentric-lay-stranded products consisting of steel central cores that are multi-layered with 1350-0 aluminum wire. Plus, ACSS/TW conductors contain up to 25% more aluminum in the same diameter as conventional ACSR cable resulting in increased ampacity.

"In order to round-out our product offering for our utility customers and be responsive to current market needs, we are pleased to now offer these new products."

Both new ACSS product lines will consist of a full range of sizes: ACSS conductor sizes range from 266.8 kcmil to 2312 kcmil; ACSS/TW conductor sizes range from 477 kcmil to 2627.3 kcmil. The ACSS and ACSS/TW product lines will be part of Alcan Cable's utility bare transmission and distribution cable offering to the Investor Owned Utility and Utility Distribution markets.

Distinctly positioned within the cable market, Alcan Cable has been a leader in developing alliance partnerships with its Investor Owned Utility customers and offering Value Added Services that are designed to reduce the 'Total Cost of Ownership' for Alcan cable products and enhance customer revenues.
