TURNKEY OPTION FOR MOULDING PLASTIC JARS
09 June 2004 - Husky Injection Molding Systems

Husky offers a turnkey solution, based on its Index injection moulding machine, for the production of thick-walled plastic cosmetics jars that can help manufacturers shorten cycle times, reduce scrap rates and produce higher yields.

The global cosmetics industry uses more than 10 billion containers annually, worth an estimated US$73 billion. Manufacturers of these containers are coming under increasing pressure to meet the high demand and reduce part costs.

Husky offers a turnkey solution, based on its Index injection moulding machine, for the production of thick-walled plastic cosmetics jars that can help manufacturers shorten cycle times, reduce scrap rates and produce higher yields.

For certain cosmetics applications, such as facial cream containers, the use of injection moulded plastic jars has many benefits over traditional glass jars. Plastic containers are lighter, stronger and shatter-resistant. Plastics are also easily customised and offer versatility in shape, size, colour, surface finish and resin.

Husky’s Index Dual system for cosmetic jars provides:
• Cycle times that are typically half that of conventional systems
• Higher yield, productivity, reliability and uptime
• Smaller workcell footprint
• Automated in-mould part removal that eliminates the need for robots
• Robust mould design with aggressive cooling

A typical cycle time for a conventional machine with robot part removal for a 50 ml jar (6 mm wall thickness) is 55 to 60 seconds. On Husky’s Index Dual system, the same part runs at 25 to 30 seconds.
