HIGH ACCURACY GUARANTEED IN TENSION AND COMPRESSION TESTING

A new level of accuracy is announced for tension and compression testing using the ‘Plus' and EZ Series universal materials testing machines from Lloyd Instruments. Two versatile new EXPlus Series extensometers for the accurate extension measurement of materials such as semi-rigid plastics, elastomers and rubbers are on show for the first time, together with a new stiffness compensation for the range of testing machines.

A new level of accuracy is announced for tension and compression testing using the ‘Plus' and EZ Series universal materials testing machines from Lloyd Instruments. Two versatile new EXPlus Series extensometers for the accurate extension measurement of materials such as semi-rigid plastics, elastomers and rubbers are on show for the first time, together with a new stiffness compensation for the range of testing machines.

High Accuracy Tensile Testing

Available in two travel lengths, 250 mm and 800 mm, the EXPlus extensometers can be fitted to any of the company's EZ and Plus Series of materials testing machines for testing up to 100 kN. In addition to increased travel over previous models and capable of accepting samples up to 25 mm thick, these high accuracy new extensometers provide enormous adaptability for accommodating samples and fitting interchangeable grips. They are used to test high elongation materials to yield and break, offering an accuracy of 0.5%, in full accordance with ISO 9513: 2002.

The EXPlus extensometers can be solidly mounted either on the test machine anchor pin or on the side of the instrument to provide easy sample fitting and give the best ergonomic testing position. When mounted on the anchor pin the unit can be rotated from side to side for best possible access to the test area. Different sized grips and samples can be fitted as the unit has both horizontal and vertical adjustments allowing it to be moved away while the sample is fitted to the grip and then moved back to engage with the sample.

High Accuracy Compression Testing

Stiffness compensation on the company's range of testing machines allows compensation to be made for any deformation, however small, of the load frame, load cell and grips of the instrument itself during compression testing. Compression tests can be performed without the sample under the same conditions as the test itself to allow the recording of any load displacement of the instrument. This can then be subtracted from compression measurements carried out on the test sample. In most cases, the instrument deformation is tiny compared to that of the sample, so the error is insignificant. Stiffness compensation, however, improves measurement accuracy in applications where the system deformation is a larger proportion of the total measurement.
