POLYMER TESTING BUOYANT THROUGHOUT ASIA
09 August 2006 - Lloyd Instruments

"The interest in polymer testing equipment in Asia has been at very high levels", reported David Greer, managing director of materials testing equipment specialist, AMETEK/Lloyd Instruments. "The company has an extremely well established distribution network throughout the region," he continued, "with distributors in India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Republic of Korea, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. Multiple distribution channels in key industrial areas of China, including Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong have recently been added to this impressive list."

The Asian distribution network provides local applications expertise and after-sales support for Lloyd Instruments' materials testing equipment, CHATILLON force measurement products and the Davenport range of polymer testing instruments and accessories. The Davenport range includes instruments for measuring melt flow index, routine testing of the melt viscosity and intrinsic viscosity of PET and the determination of the temperature deflection of thermoplastic samples.

One instrument that has been generating particular interest in the region is the Davenport HDT/VICATPlus, which measures the VICAT softening temperature and heat deflection temperature of thermoplastic samples in accordance with both national and international standards. The unit consists of a temperature controlled oil bath, with up to six testing stations, each of which may be configured for either HDT or VICAT test methods. The HDT/VICATPlus can be operated as a stand-alone unit or PC-controlled to provide fully automated analysis using Lloyd Instruments' renowned NEXYGEN software for advanced control and analysis.

"Whilst there is strong interest in the dedicated polymer testing equipment, our universal materials testing machines such as the 1kN LFPlus materials tester continue to be extremely popular", concluded David Greer. "Instruments such as this can be used to test raw materials, plastic components and finished products simply by changing the grip or fixture. With more than 250 standard grips and fixtures available and numerous special grips developed for specific applications, this offers enormous versatility in plastics testing. Tests that can be carried out include tensile, compression, tear, peel, friction and flexure testing."
