HIGH FORCE MATERIALS TESTING IS WORTH THE WAIT
24 August 2006 - Lloyd Instruments
| A powerful new high force materials testing machine offering exceptional smooth control atvery slow speeds has just been launched by Lloyd Instruments. The LS100Plus takes astaggering one and a half hours to travel the thickness of a single sheet of photocopier paper just 90 microns thick. With a 100kN (22,481 lbf) force capacity and host of new features, this machine maximises productivity and efficiency, whether in a quality control, production, research or training setting. |
The LS100Plus is capable of travelling at 1 micron per minute, with less than 0.2 per centerror. This high load measurement accuracy is brought about by 32-bit microprocessor control, a much higher data sampling rate (at 8kHz) and improved extension resolution (less than 0.1 microns) compared to its predecessor. Such control is essential for testing rigid materials under high force such as metals, ceramics, composites, heavy duty plastics, laminates, springs, webbing, geotextiles, underground plastic pipes, wire, rods and automotive components. Sensitive rupture detectors have also been fitted as standard to automatically detect sudden drops in force when testing fragile or flexible materials. The robust twin column design ensures precise results during environmental sample testing. The LS100Plus is quick and easy to use. Accessories, such as load cells or extensometers, are recognised automatically by the machine’s electronics through ‘plug and play technology’, whilst intelligent menus and prompts make light work of the operation. For complete operator safety, a built-in overload protection facility activates automatically as soon as the machine is switched on. Stand alone control is also possible. Storage is provided for 10 programmable test set-ups, and up to 600 test results in a battery backed up RAM. Basic statistical functions have also been included for data analysis without the need for sophisticated data loggers. Instrument servicing and upgrading is quick and efficient. Problem solving, should it be required, is simplified by an intelligent self diagnostic capability, and instrument upgrading is done electronically via a flash upgradeable processor without any modifications to the internal circuitry. The service history of a load cell is also stored in the load cell memory for easy access. Greater control also comes from the company’s advanced NEXYGEN MT software. With its huge test library, a key feature of the latest version includes strict multi-level security and audit trails for full traceability of users and data. Additional analysis is provided by Video Capture and 'live' test playback, and seamless test machine control is possible through a Lab VIEW industry platform. An extensive range of easily interchangeable load cells, grips, environment chambers, extensometers and other accessories are available for different applications. Lloyd Instruments’ engineers can custom build grips to an exact specification, where requested.
