ADVANTECH COMMITS TO COMPLY WITH ROHS DIRECTIVE

committing to the European Union 'Restriction on Use of Hazardous
Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment' or 'RoHS' directive
before July 1, 2006. |
Advantech, the global ePlatform Service Provider, continues to fulfill
its social responsibility to global environmental preservation by
committing to the European Union 'Restriction on Use of Hazardous
Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment' or 'RoHS' directive
before July 1, 2006. Sony also recognizes Advantech's effort toward
environmental protection and Advantech was certified as a Sony Green
Partner in 2004.
Advantech continually and actively develops its environmental policy,
and environmental preservation to the satisfaction of all interested
groups is the top priority. To comply with RoHS, Advantech will restrict
the use of Lead(Pb), Mercury(Hg), Cadmium(Cd), Hexavalent
Chromium(Cr6+), Polybrominated biphenyls(PBB), and Polybrominated
diphenyl Ethers(PBDE).
Advantech's lead free transition roadmap includes 3 phases: Phase I -
purchase Pb-free equipment and source lead-free parts, Oct/04-Feb/05;
Phase II - adjust & refine production conditions and project pilot-runs,
Mar/05-Jun/05; Phase III - phase-in of key suppliers to be ready for
ordering (by request), Jul/05.
Advantech will work proactively with industry peers and suppliers to
clarify standards and identify compatible technologies and processes to
reduce hazardous substances in its manufacturing and products. It will
be essential for Advantech's suppliers and manufacturers to understand
and be compliant to the RoHS directive. Advantech will also build up a
'Green Supply Chain Platform' for supply chain management and make sure
all suppliers meet the requirements.
