Moog Inc. has introduced the Digital Interface Valve with fieldbus communications and configurable functions that enable customers to define the dynamic behavior of the valve and adapt its characteristics to particular application requirements. The Digital Interface Valve provides high-precision digital flow and pressure control, replacing analog technology. State-of-the art functionality, such as diagnostic capabilities, integrated monitoring of key environmental and internal characteristics, and valve parameter modification, can be accessed on-site or remotely, making this one of the most revolutionary designs on the market. The Digital Interface Valve uses a distributed, decentralized control to provide customers with reduced overall system costs, shortened installation times, and the convenience of remote or on-site communication. Decentralization allows tasks to be assigned to local devices rather than the main control device, providing customers with increased flexibility and functionality. To make the product easy for customers to use, Moog engineers developed a Windows-based graphical user interface for commissioning the system, performing diagnostics, fault finding, and uploading/downloading valve parameters. The software conforms to industry specifications defined by an international ISO committee focussing on electrical and electronic technology to fluid power control products, enabling users to work with a variety of standard and custom PC-based interfaces. Another benefit of the digital interface valve is lower installation costs due to a serial-wiring scheme, which reduces the amount of wiring and improves noise immunity. Even with advanced electronics on-board, the digital interface valve is designed to withstand the difficult temperature and vibration requirements of demanding applications. The digital interface valve is not just a new product, but a platform on which future generations of high performance servovalve control will be based. "Distributed servocontrol through a fieldbus interface is the future of motion control," commented Dan Halloran, Senior Systems Engineer, Moog, ICD.

About: Moog Controls
Moog Controls started life in the UK in October 1965 as Moog Hydra-Point, based in Cheltenham, England. This new subsidiary was set up to manufacture and market the Moog Hydra-Point machines in the UK, South Africa and European common market.Nearly 40 years later, not only does MCL manufacture a suite of products for motion control applications, they are also active in the design and development of new and innovative solutions for precision control problems. Our team of highly skilled engineers can provide project support to assist our customers in the performance of a wide variety of applications including, motion simulators for training and entertainment, industrial gas turbine controls, plastics machinery controls, heavy industry, metal forming & pressing, and commercial and military ground vehicle controls. All Moog subsidiaries are represented by regional sales engineers backed by comprehensive product and engineering support teams. Add to this the global presence of Moog and you are ensured a competent partner to deliver and service you and your customers needs. MCL employs over 270 people on its Tewkesbury site, accommodated in 3 buildings, producing over 21,500 servovalves per annum. |
