Moog Inc., Industrial Controls Division, has introduced the L180 Series Digital Servo Drive, a compact servo drive that not only delivers high-performance servo control but also simplifies installation and reduces system costs. The L180, now available worldwide, has been designed to operate brushless AC servo motors for metal forming, packaging, plastics, materials handling and robotics applications. "What Moog has developed is an affordable compact servo drive that delivers high-performance motion control," said Tim Wutz, marketing manager, Moog. "With the L180, Moog is looking to broaden its customer base by offering a product that is appealing to both new and existing customers." By combining high-bandwidth digital PID control loops with advanced signal processing algorithms, the L180 delivers both high dynamic and smooth low-speed control. When matched with Moog’s low-cogging G400 Series motors, the L180 is ideally suited for most precision servo application needs. Integrated into the low-profile package of the L180 are high voltage and logic power supplies, drive amplifier, limit switch inputs and a high-power regen resistor to reduce wiring runs and free up valuable cabinet real estate. The L180 is streamlined for ±10 VDC control, and each drive is loaded with an internal regen capability of 3.8 kilowatts peak (300 watts continuous) to eliminate external regen hardware in most applications. To simplify setup and system commissioning, Moog offers a Windows -based interface for the L180, which includes a virtual oscilloscope, data logger and drive-status displays.
