Ashland Inc. announced today that it has completed its purchase of the Eurocal SAS water treatment business, operating from Replonge near Lyon in the south of France. The price of the transaction was not disclosed. The Eurocal business will be integrated into Ashland Water Technologies, a business of Ashland Specialty Chemical, a division of Ashland Inc. “France ranks as the second largest water treatment market in Europe,” said Len Gelosa, senior vice president, Ashland Water Technologies. “This acquisition strengthens Ashland’s presence in France’s food and beverage sector of that market, a primary focus of Eurocal, while also expanding our critical mass and capabilities for industrial, commercial and institutional customers in the region.” Gelosa noted that Ashland continues to pursue growth opportunities in the water treatment business worldwide. This acquisition follows the company’s recently completed purchase of the Degussa water treatment business, through which it expanded its presence in strong existing markets like Europe and the U.S., as well as the growth markets of China, Russia and Brazil. Ashland Water Technologies, a business of Ashland Specialty Chemical, is a supplier of chemical and non-chemical water-treatment solutions for industrial, municipal and commercial facilities. It provides industrial, commercial and institutional water treatments, wastewater treatment, pathogen control, paint and coating additives, pulp and paper processing and mining chemistries. In addition, it also provides boiler and cooling water treatments, fuel treatments, welding, refrigeration and sealing products; and fire fighting, safety and rescue products and services for the merchant marine industry.
