CARDIFF UNIVERSITY STRENGTHENS PHYSIOTHERAPY RESEARCH IN WALES
A new national physiotherapy research network has been established to foster and support research within the physiotherapy profession in Wales. The Cardiff hub of the network, established by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists, will be based at the School of Healthcare Studies , Cardiff University. It was launched by Phillippa Ford, Chartered Society of Physiotherapists, Policy Officer for Wales. Dr Robert van Deursen, Director of the Department of Physiotherapy in the School who will lead the network in Wales said "This is a unique opportunity to get support for research. The National Physiotherapy Research Network is in the process of establishing a database of physiotherapists involved in research and experienced clinicians. We hope this data base will provide a strong base from which we can offer support in research for all physiotherapists in Wales." The network will be used as a resource to discuss research ideas with experienced researchers and clinicians and to gain support for applying for funding and the implementation of their research and dissemination of their findings. Speakers included Jan Smith, Therapy Advisor to the Welsh Assembly Government, Phillipa Lyon, from the University of Brighton and representative for the NPRN executive and presentations were given by Denise Jones and Allison Cooper, physiotherapists who have recently been involved in clinical research.
