The co-founder of internet service provider ‘Freeserve,’ Ajaz Ahmed, will share entrepreneurial advice with an audience at Cardiff University.

Ajaz’s eureka moment came when he bought a computer at PC World in Leeds but no-one in the store knew how to get onto the Internet. After much persuasion, Dixons launched Freeserve, becoming the UK’s largest ISP in just three months.

Through leadership and business acumen, Ajaz helped revolutionise internet usage in Europe and saw Freeserve through its flotation and the £1.6bn sale to Wanadoo.

Ajaz will share his experiences in setting up Freeserve and the lessons he learnt. He will also discuss how, since Freeserve, he has been working with a number of small companies and indicating the tools required for market success.

Since its creation in 1996 the University’s Innovation Network scheme has hosted over 7200 people at its 85 plus events run for local businesses and innovators.

Described as "an excellent example of how the academic world can take a pro-active approach to developing effective links with industry," by Welsh Assembly Government Economic Development Minister, Andrew Davies, any company, enterprise or public body, large or small, can get involved.
