ST-MOULD FOR PRODUCTION OF ALL DVD FORMATS CONTINUES TO SET STANDARD

Since its first introduction in 2002, the Axxicon ST-mould for the efficient production of all DVD formats continues to set the standard. To date more than 600 ST-moulds have been installed world-wide.

The Axxicon ST-mould was first introduced at the end of 2002, when it became the benchmark for the production of DVD in all formats.

The Axxicon ST mould was designed to meet the industry’s need for faster and more economical DVD production. Today, thanks to its proven reliability, accuracy and high output, the ST mould has become the benchmark for DVD production, achieving actual cycle times of < 2.5s for DVD-9 and <4.0 seconds for DVD-R. Axxicon’s ST-mould offers the System Integrator the potential to achieve these cycle times for moulding, while maintaining a good operating window in order to control (for example) the required dishing values.

Since its first introduction, more than 600 ST-moulds have been installed at leading replicators around the globe and responses have been extremely positive. According to Maurice Smits, Sales Manager for AXXICON Moulds Eindhoven, mould reliability is extremely important for customers: “No-one in the replicating industry can afford machine down time – so in line with all AXXICON product lines, we set out to produce a mould that can operate trouble free 24 hours, 7 days a week. Reactions from our users indicate that we have more than achieved this objective.”

The ST-mould offers a range of mechanical features such as a mould guiding system and an ejector sleeve. The open mould guiding system (Axxicon’s Spring Centering System) ensures that the mould halves are always perfectly centered during the entire moulding process, resulting in improved moulding accuracy. In addition, the ST-mould comes with a mechanical ejector sleeve to further improve productivity. Together, these mechanical systems contribute to a widening of the processing window, hence offering the customer a simpler mould: “plug & play”.

Maurice Smits: “The ST-mould is equipped with a successful nozzle design to ensure an undisturbed flow of the polycarbonate. In addition, it is fair to say that after more than 2 years after the introduction of the ST-mould, the flat nozzle system in combination with the pre-centering system, has proven that it indeed has extended the life span of nozzle and sprue bush. Especially replicators are pleased with these proven benefits, it confirms the low cost of ownership of the Axxicon mould.”
