A new line of Virginia Tech and ACC co-branded apparel will be introduced as Virginia Tech prepares to become an official member of the Atlantic Coast Conference July 1. In addition, a new "Crazy for the Hokies" sweepstakes will be held with prizes totaling more than $10,000.

On Tuesday, June 29, new apparel with Virginia Tech and ACC logos will be unveiled at the Wal-Mart Supercenter in Christiansburg (2400 North Franklin Street) by Locke White, director of Virginia Tech's Office of Licensing and Trademarks; Mike Young, district manager for Wal-Mart; and representatives from Knights Apparel and S&E/Balzout. The trademarks will be on a wide assortment of products that will be available for sale to the general public July 1.

"We are very excited about our move into the ACC and we think that the new co-branded products will appeal to all our students, faculty, and fans," White said. "We have had another exceptional year for licensing revenue on Hokie products, and this new line of products will help continue the growth of sales that support the university's educational and athletic endeavors."

The winner of the "Crazy for the Hokies" '2004 Sweepstakes will receive $5,000. Entries will be photographs of anyone who is wearing or holding a Virginia Tech product, such as a hat, tee shirt or stuffed Hokie Bird. Even a sign saying "Crazy for the Hokies" will qualify. Entries must be mailed into the Virginia Tech Licensing Department from July 1 to November 22.

Other prizes will include a second prize of $1,000; and 10 Hokie Headquarter limited edition tailgating canopies. The winners will be chosen by a random drawing and will be announced at halftime during the Virginia Tech vs. University of Virginia football game November 27. Winning photographs will be shown on the JumboTron.

The Virginia Tech Licensing Department also announced today a record year of licensing royalty revenue. As the fiscal year ends June 30, royalties could surpass the $1 million mark for the first time in school history. Since 1998 the royalties from Virginia Tech licensed products have grown from $350,000 to just below $1 million.
