Honeywell announced today that it has delivered its 500th DL-950 data loader since the product’s first delivery in 2005. The DL-950, a data loader for Honeywell’s FMZ-2000 flight management system, uses a memory device employing modern Universal Serial Bus technology instead of diskettes. The data loader fits into existing mounting hardware and can be installed without any new aircraft wiring. With traditional data loaders, an aircraft operator must feed five to eight diskettes one by one into the aircraft’s data loader. The process usually takes 45 minutes or longer. With the DL-950, the operator plugs a single USB memory device into the aircraft’s data loader. “With the delivery of the 500th DL-950, we have more than tripled our original delivery goals over the initial 18-month period,” said Ken Snodgrass, Director of Technical Sales for Honeywell’s Business and General Aviation business. “The data loader allows customers to upload the latest navigation database from the Internet and take it directly to an aircraft, which results in faster load times with much higher reliability than using traditional floppy diskettes.” The DL 950 data loader replaces the Honeywell DL-800 and DL-900 diskette data loaders. Honeywell issues a new Flight Management System Navigation database every 28 days to ensure that pilots have the most current navigation and airport information.
