Great Lakes Chemical Corp is increasing the price worldwide by 20% for all of its bromine-based flame retardants, and by US$0.35/kg for all phosphorus-based flame retardants within its Polymer Additives Division. The changes will become effective for shipments beginning 1 January 2005, or as contracts allow. These price increases are in addition to all other increases previously announced. The company stated that the new pricing is necessary because of the unprecedented and rapidly increasing costs of key raw materials, energy products and logistics, fast growing end-use demand, and significant availability concerns for certain key feed stocks. Additionally, this pricing action is necessary to raise the profitability levels to a point where investment is viable.
