RAD GRANTED U.S. PATENT FOR TDM OVER IP TECHNOLOGY
18 May 2004 - RAD Data Communications Ltd

U.S. patent 6,731,649 describes a method for transporting one or more TDM links over packet switched IP networks. A TDMoIP gateway adapts segments of the constant rate TDM using AAL1 and thereafter encapsulates them in UDP/IP packets. A second TDMoIP gateway at the destination regenerates the clock, strips the UDP/IP headers and delivers a synchronous bit stream. This solution also provides an adaptive clock for clock transfer across the entire network.

This solution also provides an adaptive clock for clock transfer across the entire network.

Carrier and enterprise markets alike use TDMoIP technology to provide connectivity for enterprise PBXs and data equipment over private and public packet networks, service provider circuit emulation services, cellular backhaul, SS7 transport, disaster recovery and other voice, video and data/telemetry applications.

More Than 20,000 TDMoIP E1/T1 Ports ShippedSince it first introduced the technology to the market in 1999 with the launch of its IPmux line of TDM over IP gateways, RAD has shipped more than 20,000 TDMoIP E1/T1 ports. Earlier this year, RAD unveiled its IR-TDMoIP gateway module, a PCI Mezzanine Card based on the company’s TDMoIP chip. Both the module and the chip are now available for OEM sales.

“This patent is yet another sign of RAD’s continued leadership in setting the standard for the industry in its development of legacy over IP access devices," stated Yoram Holtz, Vice President of Marketing at RAD Data Communications. Last year, moreover, RAD became the first vendor to announce compliance with the MPLS and Frame Relay Alliance’s Implementation Agreement 4.0, “TDM Transport over MPLS using AAL1.” “RAD is now at work developing enhanced TDMoIP/MPLS capabilities for a range of access products, including dedicated multiservice access devices for Ethernet and MPLS networks,” Holtz added.
