ASHLAND INTRODUCES NEW LOW-STYRENE RESIN FOR USE IN UNDERGROUND STORAGE TANKS
06 October 2004 - Ashland Specialty Chemical Company

Ashland Composite Polymers, a business group within Ashland Specialty Chemical, has released a new, low-styrene polyester resin that lowers hazardous air pollutant (HAP) emissions and has less than 35 % styrene while providing corrosion-resistance to petroleum products, alcohols and alcohol-gasoline mixtures.

The development of Ashland's low-HAP, corrosion-resistant Aropol Q7022 T-08 polyester resin, which is ideal for underground storage tanks that require Underwriters Laboratories (UL) 1746 and 1316 certification, is another example of the company's ability to innovate solutions for its customers' challenges.

'This resin is suitable for any open moulding application and can be customized to meet fabrication needs,' said Carl Gleditsch, a technical service chemist at Ashland Global Technology. 'Q7022 offers an economical alternative to other low-HAP resins targeted for UL1316 and UL1746 regulated applications. The product provides excellent wet-out of glass fibres, tailored room temperature cure properties and demonstrated corrosion resistance as measured in the relevant UL test protocols.'

Gleditsch will present the technical paper entitled ‘Novel New Low-Styrene Resin for Underground Storage Tanks’ on 6 October 2004 at the American Composites Manufacturers Association (ACMA) trade show that is being held in Tampa, Florida, USA.
