22,000 DVD-DISCS A DAY ON ONE MOULD
11 April 2002 - Axxicon Mould Technology
| The S-Mould from AXXICON is proving to be a huge success for the effective production of Audio/ROM, CD-R and DVD-R. Introduced only 18 months ago, today the mould is meeting the specific needs of replicators by demonstrating that it is possible to achieve cycle times of around 3 seconds on a range of machines, both electric and hydraulic. For audio discs, a production of 25,000 a day has been achieved. |
According to Jan de Graaf, Director of Marketing & Sales for AXXICON Moulds, the S-Mould has been given a thumbs-up throughout the industry: “Reliability is key. The AXXICON S-Mould is highly durable and continues to prove its unique qualities day in day out. Speed and high output help to make this hardworking mould extra profitable – so it is rapidly becoming extremely popular with customers from all over the world.” Over the past 18 years, AXXICON Moulds has served the replication industry while building a reputation for the development of mould design and production. The company has implemented many improvements, mostly aimed at increasing reliability and shortening cycle times. The AXXICON S-Mould was created to operate at cycle times in the low 3 seconds range, under regular processing conditions. Features include a controlled movement of the pneumatic venting ring, which contributes to the overall reliability of the mould, by compensating automatically for variations in stamper thickness and making it ideal for injection compression moulding conditions. Another feature of the S-Mould is the completely new nozzle design which prevents cold slug and other disturbances in the flow of the polycarbonate. This design has a favourable effect on wear and life span of the critical parts. Thanks to the application of advanced geometric cutting technologies, the integrated cutting bush cuts a centre hole of exemplary accuracy, making the S-Mould highly suitable for DVD disc processing and future products like DVD-R, DVD-RAM. The optimised cooling capacity of the cutting bush and other parts contribute to the thermal stability of the mould and the undisturbed flow of the polycarbonate. The improved sprue design helps to maintain maximum machine up time.
