MATERIALISE STILL OWNS THE WORLD'S LARGEST CAPACITY BASED IN ONE LOCATION
07 September 2006 - Materialise NV
| The company offers from the smallest prototype to the largest, with the broadest range of materials in Stereolithography, SLS and FDM. The price is on average 53% less expensive than the average RP service part in the world market. |
With a complaint rate over the last quarter of 0,4% Materialise offers the only objectively published quality in the market. Superior efficiency is at the origin of consistent performance: Materialise RP machines produce more than twice as many components as the average machine at competing service providers worldwide. They produce more than 5 times the number of parts per machine compared to RP machines used internally in end-user companies. Materialise is the key supplier of RP in the European prototyping market. Materialise has become the prominent player in the European RP market. Materialise has had an outstanding performance in a declining market, increasing its market share on a year-by-year basis. In the last 5 years the company's market share has almost trebled. Where service bureaus on average own 1.5 prototype machines, Materialise produces parts on 31 machines (end 2005). Figures also show that Materialise produces over twice as many models per machine than the average service provider. We are convinced that this growth is mainly due to our efficient way of production methods and the added value we can offer our customers: Materialise is the only company able to produce very large parts in 1 piece. Models are available in an extensive range of materials. Due to our large capacity, lead times are very short. The quality of parts is constantly being checked and with a complaint rate of only 0.5% one of the best in Europe. On top of that prices are 53% less than the average price level of an RP service part. Due to the unique large dimensions of the parts Materialise can produce, we may also assume that the low price level is combined with the larger part sizes than the average RP service provider can offer. The numbers in the calculations below come from data in the Wohlers Report 2006 Facts and figures 7 % of the world production of prototypes (SLA, SLS, FDM, …) from service providers comes from Materialise: 66.397 parts Materialise / 938.860 parts world production There are 17.978 RP machines all over the world of which 4533 in Europe. As 1/4 of the prototyping machines is located in Europe, Materialise counts for 28% (7% x 4) of the European production if we just look at the numbers. We estimate a more realistic market share of minimum 12% relative to the economical importance of service bureaus in Europe compared to the US. There are worldwide 753 service bureaus and they own 1196 RP machines. This is about 1,6 machine/service bureau. Materialise owned 31 RP machines in 2005.
