NEW RELEASE OF MOLDFLOW MAGICS STL EXPERTTM 1.0, A PRODUCT PROVIDED UNDER LICENSE FROM MATERIALISE NV
10 September 2006 - Materialise NV
| Moldflow Corporation, the world leader in process-wide solutions for optimizing the design and manufacture of plastic products, today announced the release of Moldflow Magics STL ExpertTM 1.0, a product provided under license from Materialise NV. The Moldflow Magics STL Expert stereolithography manipulation product is designed specifically for the needs of Moldflow's customers in the plastics injection molding industry and will be resold through Moldflow's worldwide sales channel. |
Moldflow Magics STL Expert 1.0 is a powerful tool for viewing, measuring, correcting and optimizing STL and solid surface models imported from popular 3D CAD/CAM systems in preparation for analysis using Moldflow's patented Dual DomainTM technology. Dual Domain analyses can use STL models as the starting geometry and Moldflow Magics STL Expert 1.0 can be used to quickly validate those STL models and resolve any identified problems prior to analyzing with Moldflow's design analysis solutions - Moldflow Plastics Advisers or Moldflow Plastics Insight. Moldflow Magics STL Expert 1.0 also interfaces with Moldflow Design LinkTM (MDLTM) to import solid surface models and convert them to STL format, which can then be optimized for use with MPA and MPI. Key features include: STL Fixing Wizard - The usage paradigm of this product is centered on an automatic STL fixing wizard that guides the user through a series of easy steps to refine and optimize STL models Manual Fixing Tools - The automatic fixing wizard is complemented by numerous manual fixing tools STL Optimization Tools - Two optimization tools that greatly improve the efficiency of MPA and MPI analyses: Triangle Reduction - can be used to minimize the STL model size and complexity without any loss of accuracy Remeshing - transforms STL model triangles characterized by irregular size and high aspect ratio to uniform size and low aspect ratio Measuring Tools - Numerous measuring tools with built-in feature recognition can be used to measure thickness, distances, radii, diameters, angles and coordinates of various entities of the STL model Editing Tools - Allow for the translation, reorientation and scaling of the part model Labeling Tools - Part dimensions, part information, various measurements and the coordinate system can all be labeled for on-screen display and hardcopy print CAD interfaces - Moldflow Magics STL Expert 1.0 interfaces with Moldflow Design Link 5.0 to allow the direct import of native Parasolid, Pro/ENGINEER, SolidWorks, CATIA V5 and standard STEP part models "We are very pleased with Materialise NV for the quick turn-around in developing this product. We expect it to positively impact the productivity of the vast majority of our design analysis customers that use STL models," commented Ken Welch, executive vice president and general manager of Moldflow's design analysis solutions business unit.

About: Materialise NV
Begun as a joint venture with the University of Leuven-Belgium, Materialise was one of the first European rapid prototyping service bureaus. It has since grown into a European supplier of plastic prototype solutions, and today is a worldwide leader in the rapid prototyping industry. Materialise offers a broad range of rapid prototyping, tooling and digital CAD software. In addition, Materialise prototypes and software have established a reputation in medicine and dentistry, with clinicians the world over using them in the most complex surgical cases. Its design products division concentrates on the development of rapid manufacturing. The company is privately owned with several subsidiaries in Europe, Asia and the USA, and employs over 300 people in its 4 divisions.* Materialise Industrial Services to "materialise" technical prototypes and small series through the most advanced prototyping and tooling techniques. * Materialise Software to develop the technical software applications that allow a more efficient use of the rapid prototyping techniques. * Materialise Medical to create medical models using these prototyping techniques and to develop medical software packages that are used by clinicians worldwide to assist them in the most complex cases of surgery. * Materialise.MGX to manufacture design products for the end-user market. MGX is the youngest division and it draws on the knowledge and expertise of the prototyping division. |
