Pigment Red 264, one of the most challenging colours to produce, has been successfully developed to join the high specification Casacolour pigment portfolio of Thomas Swan Performance Colours. "This is a difficult chemistry but we have a reputation for innovation," says Thomas Swan's Ian Bryson. "We have successfully and consistently produced very high performance product from a new process." Thomas Swan claims significant performance advantages over other colour chemistries in the blue-shade red area such as anthraquinone, perylene and quinacridone. The pigment, marketed under Thomas Swan's Casacolour brand, is a Diketo-Pyrrolo-Pyrrole and has been developed for durability in demanding environments such as automotive and transport applications, industrial and architectural coatings, packaging inks and plastics. Two grades are available. Casacolour Red 2640T is a transparent version for use in combination with effect pigments such as pearls and metallics for automotive and industrial paints. It is also recommended for automotive interior plastics. Casacolour Red 2640SO is an opaque version with outstanding hiding power in all traffic paints. Thomas Swan Ltd became a major new European source of quality colours in 2004 with the launch of their range of Casacolour pigments and Casasperse preparations. The company met with considerable success in 2005 with the introduction of the bright ruby red 254 DPP pigments.
