SOLVAY ADVANCED POLYMERS SELECTS SHAW STONE & WEBSTER TO PROVIDE FRONT END ENGINEERING DESIGN
15 September 2006 - Solvay Advanced Polymers Llc

U.S.-based Solvay Advanced Polymers, L.L.C., announced today that Shaw Stone & Webster, a unit of the Shaw Group Inc., Baton Rouge, La., has been awarded the front end engineering design contract for a new, world-scale sulfone polymers production unit to be built by Solvay Advanced Polymers.

Shaw’s engineering engagement includes process studies, basic engineering design, cost estimating, modular construction analysis, and master project scheduling. The amount of Shaw’s front end contract was not disclosed.

The estimated cost of the planned production unit is more than $50 million. When operating at full capacity it will nearly triple Solvay Advanced Polymers’ existing polyethersulfone production capacity. The location of the new facility will be announced after the basic engineering design is completed. The new unit is expected to be commissioned in 2006.

“This is a significant engineering award for Shaw and reflects our Toronto
office’s expertise in polymer science,” said J.M. Bernhard, Jr., Shaw’s chairman and
chief executive officer. “It provides Shaw opportunities to develop additional markets and applications in this exciting technology driven arena.”

“Shaw Stone & Webster has a world-wide reputation for its expertise in design
and construction and we are excited to be working with them on the front end
engineering for this project,” said Carl Widerquist, Solvay Advanced Polymers’ Vice
President of Manufacturing.

“When completed, the new unit for which Shaw Stone & Webster has been
retained for the front end study will position Solvay Advanced Polymers to support
growing global markets such as automotive lighting, telecommunications, and food
service. Plus, it will provide us greater opportunity to explore and develop new markets and applications in the future on a competitive basis,” said Doug Brademeyer, Solvay.
