AUTOMATED DATA CAPTURE AND DELIVERY NOW AVAILABLE FOR FIRST AND FURTHER POULTRY PROCESSORS
12 September 2006 - BOC Gases

Poultry processors looking for ways to improve yield and consistency and to better manage their entire production process can get help from ThinkGates, a BOC process optimization and service technology business.

At the Southeastern Poultry and Egg Association’s upcoming 2006 Poultry Processor workshop, John Rinald, director of the ThinkGates business, will discuss how the Think Gates process optimization technology and service can capture real-time data in first and further poultry processing. Rinald will deliver a presentation titled “Automated Data Acquisition for the Plant” at the Poultry and Egg Association’s session on “Emerging Technology for Poultry Processing” on Thursday, May 18 at 9:00 a.m. at The Sheraton Hotel, Atlanta, Georgia.

First processing runs from slaughter to chill. During further processing, poultry is made into products such as chicken fingers, chicken patties or fajita strips.

“One challenge processors face is delivering product quality while maintaining the highest level of yield, throughput and efficiency. Our expertise is in capturing and delivering data automatically on product quality and throughput. We measure variables, such as temperature, weight, viscosity, moisture, and product damage, and then use those measurements to immediately adjust the production process.”

“We can measure variables electronically using sensors or directly from equipment Process Logic Controllers, or PLCs. The data is sent either to an automatic controller or to an operator or supervisor who makes real-time adjustments for better operational control and consistency. Having the ability to make these real-time changes can help processors better comply with their operating parameters,” Rinald said.

The Think Gates technology and service is composed of a total package of monitors, sensors, software and a related network, which includes installation and maintenance. ThinkGates provides a full-time, on-site coordinator who can monitor the process, analyze the data, and help drive change on the processing floor to help processors control and reduce variability in their manufacturing process.

“Think Gates is a comprehensive offering that monitors the product, not just the equipment, resulting in a better product consistency, yield and quality,” Rinald said.

ThinkGates is a premier process management business with expertise in helping customers control the state of their product in every step of the process using BOC’s proprietary Think Gates technology and service. The ThinkGates offering is in use in a number of major food processing companies in the poultry, red meat, seafood and snack foods industries.

Food and beverage processors look to BOC for its experience and expertise in helping to deliver the engineered solutions they need. BOC helps customers address their atmosphere, microbe and temperature control requirements so they can deliver the highest quality food and beverages to their customers. BOC provides a range of offerings, such as cryogenic gases including carbon dioxide and nitrogen for freezing and chilling, modified atmosphere packaging, state-of-the-art food and beverage monitoring and control technologies, and water management services.
