BOC EXPANDS ITS ISO 17025 ACCREDITED NETWORK
22 September 2006 - BOC Gases

BOC has received accreditation for the international standard ISO/IEC 17025 for EPA Protocol gases and NIST traceable gas mixtures at its Riverton, New Jersey facility. This is the second such accredited BOC facility in the U.S., accreditation of the company’s Royal Oak, Michigan facility was announced in May 2003. At least one additional BOC production facility is scheduled for ISO 17025 accreditation.

ISO 17025 accreditation is highly valued in many industries that BOC serves, particularly the automotive sector. For the last decade BOC has been the leading industrial gases supplier of calibration products that support U.S. automakers’ emissions testing requirements.

BOC’s accreditation under this global competency standard will minimize customers’ needs for audits, and ensure conformance to QS-9000 and ISO-16949 mandates while ensuring BOC products meet recognized standards for emission testing applications.

"This accreditation marks yet another milestone event for BOC’s U.S. operations," says John Long, national quality manager for BOC special products. "This ISO 17025 accreditation will translate into a lower total cost of ownership for our customers," he added.

The American Association for Laboratory Accreditation certification that BOC received last year was the first for a special gases company in the U.S. The ISO 17025 accreditation, when coupled with existing ISO-9001:2000 certifications, is further recognition of BOC’s qualifications as a leading provider of calibration and testing products, and its technical competence in the determination of valid analytical test results.

Established in 1978, A2LA is a non-profit, public service, membership society endorsed by multiple federal and state agencies for their programs of assessment, verification and accreditation of calibration and testing laboratories. Additionally, A2LA holds a number of mutual recognition arrangements with other laboratory accreditation systems within the United States and around the globe, resulting in recognition of BOC’s ISO 17025 accreditation by more than forty (40) economies worldwide.

In order to achieve accreditation, BOC was required to demonstrate to A2LA its technical competence in performing specific analytical testing of environmental and NIST traceable gas mixtures. BOC also was required to evidence a program for the maintenance and operation of a quality system that addresses and conforms to all elements of the international standard.
