BOC SUREFLOW'S NEW FILLING OPERATION RECEIVES THE THEAKSTON SEAL OF APPROVAL
22 September 2006 - BOC Gases
| BOC Sureflow’s new dispense gas cylinder filling operation in Salford has been officially opened by one of the most famous names in the UK brewing industry.
Edward Theakston, a member of the Theakston family* whose original brewery was founded in 1827, unveiled a plaque to commemorate the opening of the state-of-the-art Suremix filling operation which will produce carbon dioxide and nitrogen mixtures for beer, lager and stout dispense. |
Joining Edward to mark the opening of the operation was Councillor Stan Witkowski, deputy mayor of the City of Salford, and guests from across the brewing and hospitality industry. Paul Styler, BOC Sureflow’s regional business manager, said: "The theme of the day, and the message delivered by Edward, was that of ‘Taking Quality and Safety Forward’. In his speech, he outlined how the new plant reinforces BOC Sureflow’s continuing commitment to dispense gas quality and safety improvements. "We were delighted that Edward and Cllr Witkowski were able to find the time to join us on a ‘behind the scenes’ tour of the site. The day offered our guests a unique insight into BOC Sureflow’s dispense gas quality, safety control processes and innovative new equipment solutions, as well as the chance to meet leading industry experts." The opening of the new operation at Worsley brings with it real benefits to BOC Sureflow customers in the shape of: Added safety benefits from greater process control of the contents of the cylinders Easier individual cylinder examination prior to filling Consistent quality from individual cylinder analysis and mixture control by weight Greater control of cylinder filling process and more consistent cylinder contents Full cylinder traceability from individual cylinder data logging. BOC Sureflow is now able to track exactly what was filled in any cylinder, when and by whom Individual cylinder filling rather than the previous batch process Cylinders are sorted and inspected as they are being presented to the weigh scale rather than as a separate activity, thus improving productivity. At other branches with similar equipment, an average of 38 cylinders per hour are filled compared to 23 on the current rig. BOC at Worsley has been a local ‘landmark’ for more than fifty years, and plays a key role in forming part of a nationwide network of strategically located BOC facilities, filling and supplying a wide range of industrial, medical, hospitality and speciality gases. The Worsley production and distribution facility operates 24 hours a day Monday to Friday. It fills 1.8 million cylinders a year and is also a United Kingdom Accreditation Service-approved site for cylinder testing. In addition to the gas filling facility, the site is shared with BOC’s Customer Service Centre, which employs more than 300 people and offers a 24-hour free phone facility to BOC customers nationwide. It handles some 1.5 million calls per annum, processing customers' orders and handling a wide variety of enquiries on any aspect of their business with BOC.
