BOC, ATLANTIC HEALTH SYSTEM COOPERATE IN DEVELOPING MEDICAL OXYGEN SYSTEMS
10 February 2003 - BOC Gases
| BOC and Atlantic Health System, one of the top 100 integrated health care systems in the U.S., have agreed to cooperate in the development of new technology to continuously improve the dependability and safety of hospital liquid oxygen storage and delivery systems. |
As part of the agreement, BOC will also supply the Atlantic Health System’s four northern New Jersey hospitals with medical oxygen and innovative liquid oxygen storage, monitoring, and vaporization technology. But both parties stress that the most important part of the agreement is their mutual commitment to providing the safest hospital oxygen systems through technological development and comprehensive medical gases training. The Atlantic Health System includes Morristown Memorial Hospital, Overlook Hospital in Summit, Mountainside Hospital in Glen Ridge/Montclair, and The General Hospital Center at Passaic. In addition to its hospitals, Atlantic includes The Rehabilitation Institute at Morristown Memorial Hospital and numerous community health facilities. Ken Steere, medical gases specialist, BOC, says, "We’re delighted to be cooperating with an organization like the Atlantic Health System, which is not satisfied to merely comply with regulations, but is always seeking to improve on existing technologies and safe practices. I believe that together, we will be able to develop and employ medical oxygen systems that will benefit AHS patients, the surrounding community, and ultimately, hospital patients everywhere." As a pharmaceutical product, medical oxygen must comply with stringent Food and Drug Administration and National Fire Protection Agency regulations regarding its quality and safe use in patient treatment. In addition to meeting these requirements, BOC will use its proprietary Tel-TankTM telemetry system to allow 24-hour, real-time monitoring of Atlantic’s oxygen inventories by both BOC schedulers as well as hospital personnel. "With BOC’s U.S. Headquarters located in Murray Hill, the four New Jersey-based hospitals of the Atlantic Health System provide an ideal showcase for the latest in oxygen delivery equipment and new product rollout," Steere said. "Atlantic personnel are also a source of local feedback for new oxygen safety training programs and materials that can then be integrated into new corporate medical gas safety initiatives." Atlantic Health System, one of the largest non-profit health care systems in New Jersey, includes Morristown Memorial Hospital, Overlook Hospital in Summit, Mountainside Hospital in Montclair/Glen Ridge, The General Hospital Center at Passaic, the Atlantic Rehabilitation Institute in Morristown, and affiliate Newton Memorial Hospital. Atlantic hospitals serve nearly five million people in 11 counties in northern and central New Jersey, have a combined total of 1,832 licensed beds and provide a wide array of health care services.
