How good does your tap water taste? Residents of Havana, Ill., are hoping their water, which just won in a state-wide taste-test, will be able to hold its own in a national competition on April 8. Tasters at the National Rural Water Association’s annual rural water rally in Washington, D.C. will be evaluating the water on clarity, taste and smell. The St. Louis-based Environmental Management Corporation, which manages the city’s water operations, will represent Havana at that competition. EMC is a member of The BOC Group. Joe Miller, vice president and general manager of EMC’s Illinois and Missouri business, says, "It is a very impressive accomplishment to win this award, and it’s thanks to an outstanding effort by Havana’s facility manager, Jami Favor, and his entire staff. "Our EMC-Havana water operation is a first-class system. Discipline and commitment to excellence in safety and preventive maintenance, plus adherence to best industry operating practices help keep our employees safer and the environment cleaner. And that’s what makes the water taste so great." The National Rural Water Association is a non-profit federation of state rural water associations, providing support services to state associations, which have more than 22,000 water and wastewater systems as their members. EMC is one of the largest contract management, operation and maintenance firms in the U.S., providing practical solutions for complex management and environmental needs for municipalities and large industries. EMC provides specialized operation, maintenance and management services for water, wastewater and public works facilities. In addition, EMC offers clients the capability of single-source design-build-operate services and turnkey residuals management.
