BOC TO BUILD NEW MEDICAL GAS FACILITY IN THE UK

BOC Medical has announced plans to build a major gas production facility near Manchester, which will give hospitals around the country greater access to high quality medical gases.

The multi-million pound facility, the first of its kind in the UK, will open this autumn in Worsley and will produce oxygen, nitrous oxide, Entonox and other essential medical gases in line with strict new European pharmacopoeia standards.

The technology to be used to produce the gases at the facility was developed by BOC in the United States for the manufacture of high quality special gas mixtures for laboratory use. Gas cylinders at the new plant will be filled individually using computerised weighing scales to ensure pin-point accuracy and safety. Other benefits will include improved productivity and a cleaner factory environment, benefiting both the workforce and healthcare professionals who use the products.

The plant will also produce some of BOC Medical’s latest super lightweight cylinders such as the ZX, a world leading carbon fibre composite cylinder.
