Industry demand has led BOC to roll-out a second wave of customer safety workshops to raise awareness in the refrigeration industry of the hazards of working with industrial gases and refrigerants . The four new workshops follow the success of twelve workshops, run earlier in the year in conjunction with Gas Safe Consultants*, for those in the refrigeration industry involved in the handling, storage, transportation or use of gases. These included training and service managers, health & safety supervisors, workshop personnel and service engineers. Mike Dennis, BOC’s business director, special gases, said: " The feedback we received from the first set of workshops was that they identified potential hazards within the refrigeration industry that many attendees had never previously considered. For many they were expecting just a practical handling course, but instead found the course raised their awareness of the risks in a way many were not expecting. "In addition to making those attending ‘stop and think’ about safety, It also highlighted existing obligations under UK and European legislation relating to the gases employed by this industry." BOC is the first gas company in the UK to run a workshop which looks specifically at the hazards associated with industrial gases within refrigeration.
