BOC LICENSES LOTOX TECHNOLOGY EXCLUSIVELY TO BELCO

BOC has granted Belco Technologies Corporation an exclusive license to use its patented, award winning LoTOx nitrogen oxide control technology to help reduce smog-forming emissions at petroleum refineries.

Under the agreement, BELCO will offer the LoTOx technology in conjunction with its own EDV wet scrubbing system to help refiners around the world control particulates, sulfur dioxide and NOx from their fluid catalytic cracking units, the main gasoline production units at refineries. The system will be available for both new installations and retrofit applications.

Neil Greenfield, senior vice president, business development, BOC, said, "BELCO is the clear leader in refinery emissions control technologies. This new agreement will make it easier and faster for refiners to get an integrated NOx and SOx system. It’s good news for them and for the environment, and is another example of BOC finding creative ways, in this case through the licensing of BOC’s technologies, to provide solutions for our customers in the global oil industry."

Nick Confuorto, vice president, sales and marketing, BELCO, said, "This agreement strengthens our ability to be a turnkey supplier of technologies that our clients need to meet their environmental goals, particularly in terms of NOx control.

"EDV Wet Scrubbing systems are the leading SO2 and particulate emissions control technology for FCC units. The LoTOx system allows a simple, low-cost addition for NOx control that is both effective and reliable. Together, the LoTOx and EDV systems represent the best combination of emissions control technologies available for the critical FCC applications," Confuorto said.

In 2002, the companies successfully operated their combined technologies on fluid catalytic cracker unit flue gas and have since signed a number of commitments with refiners for commercial systems. This agreement will allow BELCO to deliver these systems to the industry under exclusive license from BOC.

The LoTOx technology is a patented end-of-pipe treatment system that uses ozone to selectively oxidize insoluble NOx to highly soluble species. The nitrogen oxides can then be easily removed in a wet scrubber, resulting in greater than 90 percent NOx removal from flue gases and improving air quality. Recent enhancements enable the LoTOx system to reduce mercury emissions as part of a complete multi-pollutant control solution. BOC received Chemical Engineering Magazine’s prestigious Kirkpatrick Award in 2001 for the commercialization of the LoTOx Technology.
