09 April 2002 - BOC Gases
| Gist, one of the UK’s largest specialist logistics operators, has been awarded a multi-million pound contract to manage a new supply chain operation for the John Lewis Partnership, the UK's leading high street department store chain and owner of Waitrose supermarkets. |
Gist, one of the UK’s largest specialist logistics operators, has been awarded a multi-million pound contract to manage a new supply chain operation for the John Lewis Partnership, the UK's leading high street department store chain and owner of Waitrose supermarkets. The contract further strengthens the existing business relationship between the two companies, with the John Lewis Partnership outsourcing supply chain operations for the first time. Gist, which already operates a dedicated centre for Ocado, an on-line grocery shopping and home delivery company established in partnership with Waitrose, will manage a new warehouse in Milton Keynes, receiving, allocating and picking stock for delivery to John Lewis Department Stores nationwide. The distribution centre, which feeds into satellite warehouses located near the individual John Lewis branches around the country, handles a range of ‘homeware’ goods, including toys, lighting and furniture. "Gist is a growing business, with an impressive management team, a proven track record within the industry, and a culture of customer service that fits neatly with our own," comments Andy Street, Supply Chain Director for John Lewis Department Stores. “We expect their insight and experience to help us identify key supply chain activities that positively impact cost and service.” Martin Gwynn, Gist’s Managing Director says: “Combining the John Lewis name, product range and retail know-how with Gist’s 30 years’ hands-on experience of designing, planning, managing and operating supply chains will allow us to deliver improved customer service.”
