Goodrich Corporation’s Aerostructures Group has signed a long term lease agreement for a BOC pressure swing absorption generator at its Riverside, California production facility. The PSA generator makes nitrogen that is used to inert and pressurize the autoclaves Goodrich uses in the production of non-metallic, composite parts for use in the airline and aerospace industries. A PSA is portable, and can be easily installed and sized to fit the customer’s production needs. It is especially attractive in applications where ultra-pure cryogenically-produced liquid nitrogen is not needed. PSAs are capable of producing high-purity nitrogen (99 percent purity or better), sufficient for many industrial gas applications. "Goodrich was concerned about the reliability and safety of their liquid nitrogen supply," explains Larry Byrd, western regional non-cryogenic sales manager, BOC. "They found our proposal for an on-site nitrogen generator better met their needs than the traditional tanker-truck/storage tank liquid supply solution. With an on-site PSA, Goodrich has better control over their source of supply and increased safety. Generating their own nitrogen on site also gives them some protection against wildly fluctuating prices." With 2001 aerospace sales of $4.2 billion, Goodrich Corporation is a leading worldwide supplier of aerospace components, systems and services.
