Since incorporating the BOC Burnjector technology into its operations in August, 2001, CitiSteel, a carbon plate steel mill based in Claymont, Del., has improved the energy efficiency and productivity of its manufacturing processes. The BOC Burnjector system is a proven burner and solids injection technology in a single unit. The system’s proprietary nozzle technology provides a supersonic flame shroud to maintain a powerful, high-velocity oxygen jet stream over three times the distance of systems using conventional shrouding. Plus, the system’s coaxial design provides superior solids transport into the molten steel for optimal mixing and enhanced metallurgical performance. "CitiSteel recently set three production records at our melt shop, a real high point for the employees in the shop and a tremendous accomplishment for the organization. The BOC Burnjector system played a significant part in helping us achieve this success," said Greg Buragino, vice president of manufacturing, CitiSteel. Reed Heine, project manager, BOC, said, "CitiSteel wanted to improve productivity and lower costs - a perfect fit for our Burnjector technology. Now we’ve shown that we were able to exceed their expectations by consistently delivering increased productivity with significant electrical power savings." CitiSteel is also a longtime BOC pipeline customer, buying oxygen, nitrogen and argon from BOC’s Claymont air separation unit. BOC’s metals group has a great deal of experience designing and delivering solutions for the ferrous and non-ferrous metals industries. In addition to a wide range of industrial gases supply options, BOC offers expertise in furnace design and process optimization, an array of environmental protection applications and unparalleled technical support and customer service.
