BOC has lent its expertise to Channel 5’s evening show, Combat Cars, that crashes onto our screens this month. The show, described as Gladiators meets Robot Wars, will see 24 teams of ‘petrol-heads’ transforming their everyday family saloon or estate into radio-controlled fighting machines. Each of the teams started out with only the shell of a car. With the help of BOC Industrial products from Northampton and Corby, they then welded, grinded and soldered to create monster fighting machines using equipment ranging from welding machines and angle grinders to sledgehammers and socket sets. The programme’s only rule is there are no rules, and the results are explosive as two tons of motoring madness clash. All the vehicles are equipped with weapons, anything from knives and spikes to strange lifting and digging devices. The teams will battle it out throughout the month with the overall winner walking away with the Combat Cars trophy. Sarah Maliphant, market manager, BOC Industrial, said: "We are delighted to be part of Combat Cars. The work and enthusiasm displayed by these really needs to be seen to be believed. "Not surprisingly with such vehicles, there were plenty of running repairs needed. Luckily BOC’s equipment and protective clothing was always on hand to make sure that battle could recommence."
