BOC/PROGRESSIVE INDUSTRIES SUPPLY UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS WITH COMPRESSED GASES & EBUSINESS SERVICES
27 August 2002 - BOC Gases
| Progressive Industries, Inc., a Chicago-based minority business partner of BOC, won the compressed gases supply contract with the University of Illinois at Chicago. In support of PII, BOC will supply UIC with compressed medical, industrial and specialty cylinder gases as well as liquid helium, nitrogen and carbon dioxide for use in the university’s various educational departments, research laboratories and university hospital. |
UIC has taken advantage of several BOC value-added offerings to improve the safety of cylinder gases used. The BOC safety training program, "Using Medical Gas Cylinders Safely" will be used to train UIC employees in the safe handling of compressed gases. The university will also utilize BOC’s CryoSpeed service to fill nitrogen cylinders on site in some laboratories. By using highly-trained BOC personnel to refill liquid cylinders, UIC improves safety and ensures continuous supply of liquid nitrogen with dedicated cylinders to these laboratories. "We’re proud to work in concert with our WBE partner, Progressive Industries, to offer UIC high quality gas management programs and value-added services that help them operate safely and cost effectively," said Bob Jetter, midwest regional medical specialist, BOC. BOC will also implement Internet ordering and cylinder tracking at UIC, using its proprietary Arrowhead service. The Arrowhead service provides customers with total life cycle management of cylinder gas products, including ordering, inventory management, internal chargeback and inventory management of cylinders and other cylinder gas containers. UIC will use these services to achieve cost savings in the supply chain and improve cylinder tracking and inventory control. Progressive Industries, Inc. is a certified Women’s Business Enterprise located in Chicago. Their primary business is securing governmental, municipal and corporate contracts. PII was founded in 1985, and focuses on medical and industrial projects. "Being a WBE is always an uphill climb, but our ability to partner with successful organizations like BOC has enabled us to realize strong business growth," says Valerie O’Donnell, president, PII. "We are looking for more successful partnership opportunities as we move forward," she adds. "Through this type of partnering venture, we all win." BOC is a leading developer of eBusiness services for its gas customers. In addition to Arrowhead cylinder management capabilities, BOC offers the following eBusiness services: Internet ordering, electronic access to quality assurance data, automatic supplier replenishment through Vendor Managed Inventory, bulk order/billing system, Tel-TankTM remote tank monitoring, and on-line plant configuration and process design tools and expertise.
