ENTONOX AIRED AT HARROGATE
22 June 2001 - BOC Gases
| The Entonox version of BOC Medical's innovative lightweight oxygen CD cylinder will be launched at the Ambex exhibition in Harrogate next week. |
Entonox, one of the most versatile analgesic agents currently available, is the 50:50 mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen. Because of its low blood/gas solubility, the effects of Entonox are felt within three or four breaths, with pain relief achieved in under two minutes. BOC Medical is confident the new Entonox CD cylinder will prove to be as popular with community midwives and ambulance personnel as its predecessor, the conventional steel 'D' size. Ambulance trusts, who took part in the a six month oxygen CD cylinder trial, found its ready-to-use format saved vital seconds when treating patients compared with the conventional steel cylinder, which required the ambulance personnel to attach a regulator before the patient could breathe the gas. They also cited benefits from the permanently live contents gauge, which allowed them to tell immediately how much oxygen was left in the lightweight cylinder, which holds 30% more gas than the traditional canisters. Like the oxygen CD cylinder, the Entonox* cylinder will also benefit from the same 'fibre wound' construction, offering dramatic weight saving. Brad Walker, BOC Medical marketing manager, said: "I am convinced the Entonox* CD cylinder will be very popular with community midwives and ambulance personnel. The significant reduction in weight will be of huge benefit to them and allow them to carry more equipment."
