Leading dry vacuum technology Nitrogen re-circulation Low cost of ownership BOC Edwards launched Solstar, a highly cost-effective new filter/dryer pumping system for pharmaceutical and fine chemical filter dryer applications, at Eurochem.

Solstar is the first dry pumping system to provide a single solution for the entire filter / dryer cycle, including both compressor and vacuum pumping stages. BOC Edwards patented dry pump technology and a nitrogen recycling system make Solstar significantly cheaper to run than conventional liquid ring pumps.

The system is based on BOC Edwards’ leading DRYSTAR dry pump technology, which requires no lubricating oil and therefore no effluent disposal. The maintenance requirement is much reduced compared with conventional oil-sealed systems, and there is no risk of contamination of the process. DRYSTAR pumps are already used extensively thoughout the food, pharmaceutical & chemical processing industries worldwide, in FDA approved applications.

Solstar offers pharmaceutical manufacturers notable process efficiency gains. It operates at a lower pressure than conventional LPRs, so drying cycle time is reduced, and the system can be used with multiple solvents without risk of cross-contamination. Solstar’s nitrogen re-circulation facility makes further significant reductions in process costs. The Solstar pump is a single three-claw dry mechanism with a 45kW motor and 25-60Hz inverter. The system is supplied as a complete package with pipework and controls to suit.
