DSM COATING RESINS EXPANDS CAPACITY FOR URADIL WATER-BORNE ALKYDS
12 December 2003 - DSM Coating Resins

To fulfil the increasing demands for more environment-friendly paint systems, DSM Coating Resins is investing in a new reactor dedicated exclusively to the production of its Uradil range of water-borne alkyds. The new reactor will be built at their Swedish production site in Landskrona and will be operational in early 2004.

Hermann Kröger, DSM Coating Resins Global Product Manager for Alkyd Emulsions commented: “This is an important step in strengthening the position of DSM as one of the leading raw material suppliers of environment friendly resin systems, and fits with our commitment to Sustainable Business. To the same end our latest generation of Uradil products contain little or no organic solvents and no amines. By continuing to invest in production facilities, process technology and product development we intend to further build on our range of class leading, high performance water based alkyds.”

The new reactor will substantially increase DSM's production capacity for the Uradil portfolio and will enable DSM Coating Resins to not only improve the consistency of standard products but also to produce the next generation of coating resins.

The coatings market demands paint systems that are kinder to the environment, but without compromising performance properties. This trend is given added momentum by the increasingly more stringent legislation limiting volatile organic compounds (VOC) and the use of hazardous chemicals: evidenced in the EU white paper and the new VOC limits currently being prepared.

As Hermann Kröger concluded: “DSM Coating Resins, together with our customers, already offer paint systems that are fully optimized for current safety, health and environment requirements, while delivering excellent paint properties. These new products are worthy alternatives to the standard solvent borne paints and we look forward to enhancing the range still further.”
