BTG ANNOUNCES X-MATCHPROVW LICENSING OPPORTUNITY
12 October 2006 - BTG
| BTG, a global leader in commercialising technology, is seeking companies interested in licensing X-MatchPROVW, the next generation of the X-MatchPRO technologies originally commercialised by BTG. X-MatchPROVW is a fully verified, lossless compression technology that enables companies to realise significant savings in time and money, by quickly and easily doubling both the bandwidth of their data transmission lines and the capacity of their storage networks. |
X-MatchPROVW now enables true 2:1 data compression at speeds greater than 400Mbytes/sec, approximately three times the speed of other compression technologies currently available. Minimal latency data compression is an important technique for the acceleration of data transfer in networks and computers as well as for increasing data storage capacity. Over the past decade a team under the leadership of Professor Simon Jones at Loughborough University, one of the UK's most important technology institutes, has been working on the development of the X-MatchPRO technologies. In March, the *Dataquest Technology Analysis listed X-MatchPRO in a report entitled "The Migration to Serial System Interconnect Buses". The report recognised the technology's potential as one of the "techniques that now exist for real-time compression of data at gigabit speeds with minimal latency". Robert Held, BTG's Associate Vice President in the Electronics, Engineering and Information Technology department, commented: "Over the past few years there has been a growing need for a fully scalable, high-speed lossless data compression technology to support high-speed storage and networking applications. The development work at Loughborough University has progressed well and the X-MatchPRO technologies have now been proven to support speeds in excess of 400 Mbytes/sec. This gives companies the ability not only to double the bandwidth and capacity of their networks but also to increase their mass storage through the addition of one X-MatchPRO chip". In recognition of his achievements Professor Simon Jones, Chief Inventor of X-MatchPRO, has been appointed to a Personal Research Chair in Embedded Microelectronic Systems, supported jointly by the Royal Academy of Engineering and ARM at Loughborough University. This is a highly prestigious Chair, funded for five years, to allow Professor Simon Jones to focus on developing further his microelectronics research, and through that an internationally strong research group, at Loughborough.
