DSM AND RHODIA CREATE WATER-BORNE BINDER FOR DECORATIVE PAINTS
10 October 2002 - DSM Coating Resins

DSM Coating Resins and Rhodia PPMC have created a new water-borne binder for decorative paints.

DSM Coating Resins and Rhodia PPMC have created a new water-borne binder for decorative paints.

This new binder meets the demands of the various European countries and combines optimal environmental protection with technical performance.

The Urabrid range is a new generation of water-borne products, bringing together the advantages of an alkyd emulsion and a polymer dispersion - such as drying, yellowing resistance and water-vapour permeability - in one product. The Urabrid range therefore provides ‘the best of two worlds’.

The goal was to develop a water-borne binder with high technical performance and a low volatile organic content (VOC), compliant with the new EC directives. To achieve the high technical performance, Rhodia PPMC and DSM Coating Resins initiated a joint R&D project to develop a new DSM product called Urabrid. This eco-efficient water-borne binder heralds the beginning of a new DSM product line.
