Cabot Supermetals, a business of Cabot Corporation announced it has entered into a global patent cross-license agreement with Honeywell's Electronic Materials business covering certain of their respective proprietary tantalum technologies related to the production of high-purity Ta metals and sputtering targets. The agreement will allow Cabot, a supplier of high purity Ta plate and components, and Honeywell, a manufacturer of Ta physical vapor deposition sputtering targets for semiconductor chip production, to tap into the broader combined Ta patent portfolio to better serve semiconductor manufacturing customers. The agreement covers a combined portfolio of fourteen patents. "In addition to being good for Cabot and Honeywell, we believe this agreement will benefit the semiconductor industry by making the best tantalum technologies available more broadly," said Eduardo Cordeiro, vice president and general manager of Cabot Supermetals. Cabot Supermetals is a leading supplier of high-purity tantalum and niobium products to the electronics, aerospace, defense, and chemical processing industries. Products include high capacitance Ta powders for capacitor applications and high-purity Ta ingot, plate and rod for a variety of applications.
