PROTON MOTOR DELIVERS FUEL CELL HYBRID BUS TO THE CITY OF BARTH
25 October 2006 - DTI Globalwatch
| Proton Motor Fuel Cell GmbH last week delivered one of the first Zero Emission Buses with Fuel Cell Hybrid Technology to the City of Barth (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern), which will in turn take ownership of the bus. |
The bus will be operated in urban and regional public transport and the official handover will take place during a visit by Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Methling, Minister responsible for the Environment in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Prof. Methling provided significant support to the project and he will be joined at the unveiling ceremony by the Mayor of Barth, Mathias Löttge, and a number of representatives involved in economics, politics and the media. The presentation will also involve a ‘test run’ where the guests will be able to experience the silent motion of this high-tech vehicle and note that only pure water will exit the exhaust. The objective of this project with the City of Barth is to clearly illustrate the advantages of this technology for the future and to gather practical experience. And thanks to the regenerative generation of hydrogen, the complete chain of sustainable transport will be demonstrated. The inaugural testing of this technology will take place in regional and tourist related transport through the use of a flexible medium-sized vehicle, a so-called ‘Midibus’. This is in contrast to previous projects that have generally addressed the issue of hydrogen technology through using city buses in urban traffic. Both the fuel cell aggregate and the complete system were delivered by Proton Motor Fuel Cell. Furthermore, they also supplied the complete vehicle. In developing and producing this vehicle, PM collaborated with several regional companies and institutions. Furthermore, PM is one of the few companies in the world that currently has experience with this technology, particularly in relation to the hybrid configuration. Proton Motor Fuel Cell competently develops and manufactures fuel cells and fuel cell systems. PM is a medium-sized enterprise with a comprehensive knowledge and experience of PEM fuel cells and the corresponding system technology. This includes complete applications and comprises the development, production, application and testing of fuel cell systems, particularly in relation to the automotive sector. To date, PM has equipped several vehicles with fuel cells and further vehicles are being worked on. PM’s production facilities will be considerably expanded in the coming years.
