HUSKY UNVEILS NEW CYCLE-REDUCING TECHNOLOGIES

Husky Injection Molding Systems, the world's leading supplier of preform systems and services, has unveiled new technology for faster preform molding cycles.

Engineers at Husky continue to push the limits of how fast preforms can be molded and have developed a suite of new cycle improvement tools. Through a combination of improved in-mold and post-mold cooling, system dry-cycle reductions and hot runner refinement, cycles are falling by up to 25% compared to 2003.

Husky is showcasing the new technology at NPE with a 72-cavity HyPET 300 system running an industry leading 6.5 second cycle for a 14.5 gram 500 ml water preform. The same preform would have run an 8.5 second cycle just a few years ago. The cycle enhancements will be available on the complete range of HyPET systems and can be tailored for different preform geometries, allowing HyPET systems to run the fastest cycles for any application.

"Because of the complex interaction between machine, robot, hot runner and mold, it is only possible to achieve the fastest cycle times if all these pieces are designed together as a system," Mike Urquhart, Husky's Vice President of PET Systems, said. "Every time we break a new cycle threshold, it uncovers the next cycle-limiting challenge. The technologies we are showcasing at NPE are certainly not the end of the cycle improvements you will see from Husky."
