THE WORLD'S MOST PRODUCTIVE PREFORM SYSTEMS
18 October 2006 - Husky Injection Molding Systems

Husky introduced new injection molding technology for faster preform cycles and higher outputs at the National Plastics Exposition.

Husky introduced new injection molding technology for faster preform cycles and higher outputs at the National Plastics Exposition.

Husky showcased new cycle-reducing technology with a 72-cavity HyPET 300 system running an industry leading 6.5 second cycle for a 14.5 gram 500 ml water preform. The same preform would have run an 8.5 second cycle just a few years ago. The cycle enhancements will be available on the complete range of HyPET systems and can be tailored for different preform geometries, allowing HyPET systems to run the fastest cycles for any application.

"Because of the complex interaction between machine, robot, hot runner and mold, it is only possible to achieve the fastest cycle times if all these pieces are designed together as a system," Mike Urquhart, Husky's Vice President of PET Systems, said. "The technologies we showcased at NPE are certainly not the end of the cycle improvements you will see from Husky."

Husky has also developed a 216-cavity preform mold, the world's largest, in partnership with Amcor PET Packaging. The new mold was on display at NPE. The 216-cavity mold will run in a HyPET 650 machine, which is also a new addition to Husky's product line.

"We have had various concepts for 192 cavities and higher on the drawing board for some time," said John Galt, Husky's President and CEO. "But we wanted to ensure the hot runner and machine technologies were advanced enough to take full advantage of the increased cavitation. With our new speed-up technologies, enhanced process control and improved hot runners, we're now there."
