HUSKY INTRODUCES PREDICTIVE MAINTENANCE PROGRAM
18 October 2006 - Husky Injection Molding Systems

Husky Injection Molding Systems has introduced a new Predictive Maintenance program for its complete line of machines. By leveraging the power of Husky's PC-based Polaris Control, SmartLink plant monitoring software and the latest in third-party predictive devices, Husky is now able to provide customers with the tools necessary to predict the need for preventative maintenance to reduce machine downtime.

New PdM tools can monitor characteristics such as power consumption, vibration, temperature and oil cleanliness in real-time and use this data to recommend timely maintenance.

"Components such as pumps, electric motors and seals all have finite lifespans, so to be able to predict the need for maintenance, before failure occurs, is a significant step forward in increasing customer asset utilization," Keith Boss, Husky's Vice President of Parts and Service, said. "This new program is part of our overall efforts in ensuring exceptional customer care."

Real-time data can be managed by either Polaris Control or SmartLink. Thresholds can be monitored in real-time, and once those thresholds are exceeded the software can deliver instant messaging to the production team. Data and messaging can be managed by either Husky or the customer.

SmartLink is a web-based software that allows companies to share expertise and best practices. The software was designed specifically for the needs of injection molders. Functionality exists that allows users to view machine screens in real-time from remote locations. Companies with multi-plant locations are now able to share processing and trouble-shooting support. SmartLink's instant notification module dispatches e-mails or pages when thresholds are exceeded. This allows customers to react more quickly and minimize down-time.
